57 points – Viva Goa Indian Cuisine

UNITED STATES, San Francisco, California. If “Goa” is in your restaurant name you should do a mean vindaloo, right? While this offering looked right by colour, and consistency, it smelled right, but it’s what’s inside that really counts. And what was inside was a lot of potato and not a whole lot of lamb, and very little meat overall versus the curry itself. And I still wish the serving size was larger for the price. Shrinkflation is a symptom of a problem in today’s economy, but I have to grade a dish on a standard versus others. Taste was ok and the vibrancy was nice, but this dish failed on the tangibles.

66 points – Passage to India – Cambridge

UNITED STATES, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Most disappointing was the serving size for the price paid. The vindaloo itself was ‘meh’. Not fresh and not incredibly tasty (and somewhat sweet) but you could recognize it as a vindaloo that could do better. One positive, I asked for very spicy and I was served very spicy, which doesn’t always happen.

IRELAND, Dublin. A new measuring stick for future vindaloos. Switching to goat would make this vindaloo nearly unbeatable, and a larger serving size would have meant more to cherish the next day (I love leftover vindaloo). Very fresh and very vibrant vindaloo curry. Wonderful.
