87 points – Diwali Indian Restaurant

IRELAND, Dublin. A new measuring stick for future vindaloos. Switching to goat would make this vindaloo nearly unbeatable, and a larger serving size would have meant more to cherish the next day (I love leftover vindaloo). Very fresh and very vibrant vindaloo curry. Wonderful.

86 points – Sahib (pre-2020)
was the review date
CANADA, Pointe-Claire, Quebec. One of the best so far, but unfortunately the recipe was changed over time (~2020). The old recipe that is no longer available is still one of the top 5 current measuring sticks for future vindaloos I experience. Simply switching from lamb to goat would have made this vindaloo an even bigger…

77 points – Tandoori Bellevue
was the review date
CANADA, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. A good effort, but lacks vibrance and flavor.
-
77 points – Sahib (post-2020)
was the review date
CANADA, Pointe-Claire, Quebec. Unfortunately, today’s vindaloo from Sahib is much inferior to the dish they served prior to 2020. It’s a good effort, but lacks what its predecessor excelled at.

68 points – Goan beach shack (no name)
was the review date
INDIA, Cavelossim Beach, Goa. The WOW factor score in the total scoring for this offering fully reflects where I ate the vindaloo, but the overall score I ended up with is fair given its texture when served, its saltiness, and the lack of freshness. But I will always remember it and will visit Goa many…

66 points – Sugandh Indian Restaurant
was the review date
UNITED STATES, Millbrae, California. I had heard their location in Millbrae was quaint and that their food was great. I gave it a try. The lamb vindaloo I ate was not great or quaint, but maybe it was an off-day. Freshness, curry vibrance, a less pasty texture, goat meat are all things that would help…

65 points – Zayka Indian Cuisine
was the review date
UNITED STATES, Raleigh, North Carolina. I didn’t originally review this vindaloo seriously back in 2018 when I ordered it. I was on a business trip at the time. I do remember it though and although the packaging and presentation was memorable, the curry certainly was not. Will have to visit them again sometime.

65 points – Tandoori Xpress
was the review date
CANADA Laval, Quebec Total Score 65 out of 100 RESTAURANT NO LONGER IN BUSINESS Standard vindaloo at a small restaurant outside of Montreal. We were the lone diners during a Thursday lunch visit. The food quality was good but the location is likely why this restaurant didn’t survive.

61 points – Naans by Shubi
was the review date
CANADA, Alexandria, Ontario. A small town restaurant does a good job competing flavor-wise with some much larger big-city restaurants.
-
53 points – Ahmed Indian Restaurant
was the review date
UNITED STATES, Orlando, Florida. I wasn’t impressed and despite giving it a total score of 53, I feel I’m still being too generous. I felt like it was rushed, was ‘fast food’, and was mass produced. Not much attention and care went into the recipe or the preparation.
-
47 points – Masala Art
was the review date
CANADA, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec. Odd consistency, a miss on the curry makeup, and it was sweet. Did they add sugar? Did not smell like a vindaloo I’m familiar with.

43 points – Bombay Choupati
was the review date
CANADA, Pierrefonds, Quebec. Even though they offer goat meat (10 points) the rest of the dish fell flat in most areas. It was served as a soup consistency which was surprising.
